A. CANADA

Alberta Government Occupational Health and Safety: explanations of law and regulations, including compliance and enforcement policies.

Canada’s National Occupational Health and Safety Website: created by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, it offers links to occupational health and safety materials created by all federal, provincial and territorial governments in Canada.

Canada Safety Council: a newsletter and safety study information.

Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety: extensive information on practices, policy and law.

Canadian Standards Association: while the extensive industry-specific standards themselves are only available for purchase, there are extensive free explanations of the CSA standards system, a newsletter, an Info Update, and highlights of product offerings.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada Labour Program Occupational Health and Safety:      overviews of federal laws, plus summaries of new developments in occupational health and safety regulations in all Canadian jurisdictions.

Industrial Accident Prevention Association: Ontario-based organization of industry members, offering a legislative compliance questionnaire, joint health and safety committee forms, hazard tip sheets, and conference information.

Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST): Quebec-based research institution with many publications, mostly in French but some of which are available in English.

Manitoba Labour and Immigration Workplace Safety and Health Division: Safe Work Newsletter, bulletins, and legislation.

New Brunswick Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission: policies and legislation.

Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Government Services Occupational Health and Safety: legislation, guidelines, bulletins and summaries of inspection activity.
Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety (http://www.gov.ns.ca/lae/healthandsafety   ): annual reports and plain language guides to regulations.

Ontario Ministry of Labour: responsible for investigations and prosecutions, the site includes guides to legislation, enforcement statistics and news releases.

Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board: documents on prevention, health and policy.

Quebec Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail: legislation and policies.

Saskatchewan Labour Occupational Health and Safety: news releases on violation convictions and explanations of laws and regulations.

Standards Council of Canada: a Crown corporation that promotes "efficient and effective standardization" in Canada, offering issue backgrounders, policy papers, and the Consensus magazine.

B. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

American National Standards Institute: law and policy information.

American Society of Safety Engineers: while some publications are only available for purchase or to members, the site still offers significant free material including selected articles from Professional Safety magazine, book reviews, policy position statements, and press releases.

Mine Safety and Health Administration: detailed reports on all U.S. mining fatalities with best practices learned, including a compendium of international mining law at http://www.msha.gov/MINELINK/COMPEND/INTERMNG.HTM

National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health: part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the site is more aimed at safe practices rather than the regulation of those practices, but its statistics, bibliographies of publications, and practice descriptions have legal relevance.

National Safety Council: Safety + Health Magazine, safety fact sheets, news reports, and an interesting "Odds of Dying" statistical comparison by cause of death.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration: information on programs, laws and regulations.

Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission: decisions of the Commission back to 1978.

Osh.net: run by an occupational safety and health consulting firm, it offers links to regulations, government agencies, and even safety humour sites.


C. UNITED KINGDOM

Health and Safety Executive: journals, newsletters, statistics, plus detailed enforcement action and policy information, including a prosecutions database for all convictions in England and Wales.

Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland: guides, legislation, codes of practice, and reports on public consultations.

Health and Safety Executive Scotland: although health and safety is controlled by the U.K. Parliament, differences in the Scottish legal system lead to this site explaining the different policies used to take account of those differences.

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health: policy, news and discussion forums.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents: policy papers and submissions, fact sheets, statistics, and various publications available for purchase.


D. AUSTRALIA

Australian Safety and Compensation Council: codes of practice, national standards legislation and other publications.

Comcare: responsible for workplace safety in the Commonwealth jurisdiction, offers extensive online publications of legislation, codes of practice, management responsibilities, and training.

Workcover Authority of New South Wales: law and policy documents including codes of practice and prosecution guidelines.

Worksafe Standards Tasmania: codes of practice, enforcement and prosecution policies.

Worksafe Victoria: includes particularly detailed codes of practice, very extensive internal policy documents relating to topics like internal review of inspectors’ decisions, search warrants, seeking an injunction, sentencing submissions, and summaries of prosecution results.

Worksafe Western Australia: guidance notes, codes of practice, Safetyline magazine, enforcement and prosecution policy, and prosecution summaries.


E. NEW ZEALAND

Department of Labour Health and Safety Section: research reports, detailed prosecution result statistics including fine quantum per legislative provision violated, a glossary of terms and many other materials.


F. INTERNATIONAL

European Agency for Safety and Health at Work: European Union body offering an immense amount of material including magazines, reports, fact sheets, newsletters and complete conference proceedings.

Finnish Institute of Occupational Health: research institution with extensive scientific research publications, many of which are in English.

International Labour Organization: while core publications are only available for purchase, free portions of the site include international labour conventions, World of Work magazine, and labour fact sheets.

International Occupational Safety and Health Information Centre: bibliographic databases of legislation, periodicals and books on occupational safety and health throughout the world, Hazard Datasheets, and a multilingual glossary.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO): the world’s largest developer of standards, whose work has considerable relevance for occupational health and safety, its myriad standards are only available for purchase but its site contains extensive free explanations of the standardization system and which standards are currently available.
Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (http://www.jisha.or.jp/english/index.html  )   : Japanese laws, guidelines, statistics and cases all in English as well as Japanese.

OSHWEB: Belgium-based extensive list of occupational health and safety site links from the Prevent, Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

SafetyDirectory.com: extensive occupational health and safety site links.
